From Code to Craft: The Journey of Our Metal Workshop
2019: The Leap into the Unknown
In October 2019, I embarked on a new journey: opening an online shop specializing in metal furniture and home decor in China. At the time, I had zero industry experience and felt the same uncertainty many entrepreneurs face.
With the global pandemic following shortly after, traditional marketing wasn't an option due to limited budgets.
However, I found my own way to understand the market. I committed to one-on-one conversations with every single customer to deeply understand their specific needs and usage scenarios.
I believed that a solution for one person would eventually become a solution for many.
To gain hands-on experience quickly, I took a "brute force" approach to pricing: my first 10 orders were done at cost or even at a loss. Whether it was a display rack, a bed frame, or a table, my priority was learning the craft and building a foundation of real-world expertise.
2020: The Technical Evolution
My background as a former software programmer became my "secret weapon" in the workshop.
In early 2020, a client requested a laser-cut metal sample. Since I only knew Photoshop and wasn't yet familiar with CAD, I found a workaround by importing PSD files into CorelDRAW to trace paths and generate the necessary files. Once that urgent order was delivered, I immediately spent two weeks in intensive self-study to master the software systematically..
Later, as custom requests grew—such as designing a specialized bed for a tiny room with complex cabinetry—I realized Photoshop wasn't enough for high-quality visualization. I spent the next month mastering 3ds Max. My programming logic helped me pick up the software rapidly, allowing me to provide clients with professional, 3D rendered mockups that truly brought their visions to life.
By May 2020, I had mastered the essentials: from pipe bending and laser cutting to grinding and powder coating. I wasn't just selling products; I was controlling every detail of the quality.
2023: The Power of Community & Focus
The business grew through genuine connections. I encouraged my most passionate customers to share their installations on social media. This organic word-of-mouth was slow but steady. I analyzed every client interaction, using their feedback to create five product variations designed in 3ds Max, which led to a consistent stream of inquiries.
The real turning point came in January 2023. A customer shared a beautifully styled, artistic photo of one of our custom designs. Even without a large following, the sheer quality of that image caused our orders to double almost overnight.

Today: Precision Over Quantity
As we grew, I made a strategic decision: to do less, but do it better. To maintain the highest quality standards, I narrowed our focus to three core specialties: Bar Stools, Bed Frames, and Custom Laser-Cut products. By streamlining our categories, we ensure that no detail is overlooked and every labor hour is optimized for perfection.
I still document every step of our production—thousands of photos and videos that serve as a continuous quality-control library.
Our Vision: Making Customization Accessible
Today, my workshop is more than just a place of manufacture; it's a bridge between a digital idea and a physical masterpiece. Whether it’s optimizing a simple JPG into a structurally sound CAD file or providing 3D designs free of charge, my goal remains the same: to prove that niche, high-quality customization always has a place in the market.
Even as global trade landscapes shift, our commitment to transparency, technical precision, and the "story" behind every piece of steel remains unchanged.
